The kit
In use Appearances: Episode 912, 1902 |
Porter-Cable has had a couple of professional hinge mortising jigs (for installing hinges on both doors and jambs, ensuring precise location of all) out for several years. We've seen them being used on This Old House projects for some time, although I don't recall the earliest project—it was back in the Boob Vila days, I'm sure. Interest now seems to be trickling down to the individual DIYer doing a large remodel and the trickle apparently has leaked into the New Yankee Workshop. I can't say for sure that the jig used in the Garden Shed, Part 2 (912) episode is the same as the one used in the Entrance Door episode (1902), but how many hinge mortising jigs can he inventory, anyway? Neither am I sure that it was actually a 59381, but it looked like this and did this job in either case. Although this is a reasonably priced jig, in truth, you need to have several doors to hang to make the purchase worthwhile. |
